The Mississippi River Network consists of wildlife and nature-based organizations leveraging their united power and resources to drive change on behalf of the Mississippi River.
MRN educates both its member organizations and the public on how river-friendly practices can promote a healthier Mississippi River and a stronger surrounding ecosystem. Together, we seek out meaningful opportunities to engage the public and advocate for important policies.

Steering
Committee
One Mississippi’s Steering Committee drives the collective efforts of MRN, guiding the strategic plan and ensuring diverse member views are respected. It harmonizes regional and national communications and works transparently toward the shared goal of a healthy Mississippi River, rather than advancing individual interests.
The Steering Committee's Work includes:
Evaluating the impact of the Network on member organizations
Planning the annual member meeting
Approving foundational plans, such as the Equity Approach and Theory of Change
Leading bi-annual strategic planning retreats

Committee
Numerous laws and policies at the federal, state, and local levels impact the health of the Mississippi River and its communities. One Mississippi’s Policy Committee focuses on advancing policies that promote just, equitable, and resilient communities, reduce pollution from runoff, and protect the river’s ecosystem. The committee sets annual policy priorities, shares and implements advocacy strategies, and centers equity in its processes.
The POLICY Committee's Work includes:
Coordinating DC “fly-ins” to engage Congressional leaders
Amplifying action alerts for River Citizens
Hosting webinars on River policy
Bridging national and state-based organizations on River issues

Committee
One Mississippi’s Engagement Committee makes recommendations regarding communication, recruitment, and engagement messages and strategies for the 1 Mississippi program and is composed of individuals hailing from member organizations along the length of the River. As the outreach and engagement think tank of the Network, the committee also coordinates full-river events, initiatives, and campaigns.
The ENGAGEMENT Committee's Work includes:
Centering regional-specific experiences, issues, and opportunities
Aligning efforts with overarching Network priorities such as equity, justice, and inclusion
Supporting local, state, and federal policy advocacy
Promoting a healthy and resilient Mississippi River for people, land, water, and wildlife

One Mississippi educates its member organizations and the public on the importance of River-friendly policies, offering opportunities to engage with decision-makers and advocate for these policies.
One Mississippi’s policy program collaborates with the public education and advocacy initiative to urge decision-makers to create federal and state policies that improve the health of the River. The Network educates both its members and the public on how River-friendly policies can promote a healthier Mississippi River.
Approved members pledge to take specific actions to protect the River, such as coordinating Mississippi River-related communications region-wide and identifying opportunities to engage the public in protecting and restoring the River.
Becoming a member is a simple process. Potential members and partners submit an application, which is reviewed by the Executive Director and the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee assesses whether applicants share the Network’s goals and objectives.
