Healthy Soils & Regenerative Agriculture
Healthy Soils, Healthy River
Healthy soils are the backbone of sustainable agriculture and are vital for a healthy Mississippi River. Unfortunately, conventional farming practices have depleted soils, leading to erosion, nutrient loss, and water contamination, threatening the River’s ecosystem.

Our Solution
Funding Farm Bill Conservation Programs
The most effective solution to this challenge is regenerative agriculture — to fuel farming practices that restore and maintain soil health. By working with farmers, agencies, and organizations to implement best practices for soil conservation, we can foster standard practices that help retain nutrients, reduce nutrient runoff, prevent erosion, and restore natural soil ecosystems.
The following Farm Bill programs and other initiatives need the community’s committed support:
- Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP)
- Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
- Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)
- Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP)
- Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), including Clean Lakes, Estuaries, and Rivers (CLEAR)
- Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative (MRBI)
